South Africa Safari Golf and Battlefields back
A superb experience - Golf, Safari and battlefield tour. An escorted tour of South Africa departing the UK on November 14th, 2009.

Nov 15th
After an overnight flight from the UK and upon arrival in Johannesburg you will be met by Peter and Judy Grey who will be your hosts for your tour of South Africa. Although they now live in Scotland, Peter and Judy have many years experience touring Southern Africa. Peter is a single figure golfer who has experience of County and International golf at senior level. Judy is a non-golfer who has a great love of African wildlife, especially Elephants.
Once aboard our luxury coach we will leave Gutang province on the High Veld and head east to the province of Mpumalanga and the Low Veld. Some four and half hour’s later dependant on stops we will arrive at the Greenway Woods Resort for a two night stay. This is a good place to relax and get used to the slower pace of life on the Low Veld.

NOV 16th
Today we will play The White River G.C. originally designed by Gary Player and later updated by Gary Player and Reg Taylor the course is dominated by the river which winds through the course and poses problems at many of the holes. For non- golfers the club offers tennis, squash and an outstanding swimming pool adjacent to the club house.

NOV 17th
After breakfast this morning we take a leisurely drive to the old gold mining town of
Pilgrims Rest. The town is a living museum of the 1873 gold rush days and is now a National Monument. Lunch can be taken before we continue north to Phalaborwa and the Hans Merenski Golf Estate which will be our home for the next two nights. This evening we will embark on a guided safari in the Kruger National Park, your first chance to see the real Africa.

NOV 18th
Today we play the legendry Bob Grimsdell designed course here at Hans Merenski. It is rated in the top 20 courses in South Africa but for uniqueness it stands alone. It is a true bush course where game from the neighbouring Kruger National Park can be seen crossing the fairways. Whilst it is possible to see Lion and Elephant, you are more likely to see all types of Antelope and Giraffe. One thing you must not do is try to retrieve your ball from any water hazards which are the domain of Croc’s and Hippo’s. Do however keep an eye out for the magnificent bird life of the African Bush. For non – golfers there are excellent tennis courts, great walks around the grounds or just relax by the pool.

NOV 19th
After breakfast we drive south to the southern most end of the Kruger National Park for a two night stay at Kwa Madwala and the famous Manyatta Rock Camp. Kwa Madwala is a private game reserve where you could quite easily see the “BIG 5”. Kwa Madwala offers double suites in your own chalet, with air conditioning, open air showers and a private deck overlooking a water hole. Accommodation is on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. Optional extra’s include – Morning and evening game drives, bush walks, elephant back safari’s and for the intrepid an aerial safari by micro light plane.

NOV 20th
For golfers, today should be the high light of the tour as we will play probably the best course in South Africa. Leopard Creek is the home of The Dunhill Championship and its owner Johann Rupert and Gary Player designed a real gem. Overlooking the Kruger National Park and the Crocodile River it is not only stunning but a privilege to play this “members by invitation only club”.

NOV 21st
You will not want to leave Mpumalanga but leave you must. Today we enter another country, The Kingdom of Swaziland. This poor country is the place to buy those souvenirs from the many roadside markets. Our two night stay is at the Royal Swazi Sun set in its own magnificent grounds with its own golf course.

NOV 22nd
A day of leisure or a chance to play the hotels golf course which requires some good course management if you are to produce a good round.

NOV 23rd
Our journey today takes us out of Swaziland and back into South Africa and Kwa Zulu Natal. Following the coast south we arrive at the magnificent resort of Zimbali Lodge. We will stay here at this paradise on the Indian Ocean for four nights.

NOV 24th
Golf today will be at the stunningly designed Tom Weiskopf course at Zimbali. A course of two distinct halves both of which will be a challenge in totally different ways.

NOV 25th
A short journey north through sugar plantations takes us to Princes Grant. A great golf course designed by Matkovich and Hayes is set among old sugar cane fields in rolling hills and deep valleys overlooking the Indian Ocean.
NOV 26th
A day for history, as we take a three hour battlefields tour of Isandiwana. This not to be missed tour gives a poignant reminder of the Zulu wars.
NOV 27th
After breakfast we travel south to the City of Durban to play the famous Durban Golf and Country Club course. This wonderful natural course built on a narrow strip of dunes next to the Indian Ocean has holes as good as any in the World. The opening holes in particular are probably the hardest start of any you are ever likely to play. In the afternoon we continue our journey down the HibiscusCoast to the Selborne Golf Estate for the last three nights of our tour. This luxury estate will be our base while we play two outstanding but very different courses in the area.
NOV 28th
Today we will play one of the top 10 courses in South Africa. San Lameer was designed by Peter Matkovich and is a little master piece with water in play on many holes.
NOV 29th
The Wild Coast Golf Club will today present you with one of the toughest courses you will ever play. Set on hilly ground overlooking the Indian Ocean the wind is always a factor. There are some truly magnificent holes, not least of which is the 18th where only your best drive will carry the water
NOV 30th
A morning round at Selborne before returning to Durban will give you a lasting reminder of great golf overlooking the warm Indian Ocean. An afternoon flight back to Johannesburg and onwards to the UK will give you chance to reflect on this memorable tour of South Africa.
